Note:  Schedule is subject to change (check back often)

Society meetings are held the second Saturday of each month beginning at 1 p.m. unless otherwise noted below.   The meetings normally last 2-3 hours.  Some meetings are followed by workshops in which the participants can create their own bonsai.  Some events have registration costs.  Some workshops allow the participant to bring their own materials.  Other workshops require purchase of materials supplied by the speaker.  The above dates and times are subject to change.  Specific details of each meeting will appear on the home page of this web site each month, about 30 days before the scheduled program date. If you have questions about any specific program, please contact the program coordinator  or workshop leader for that particular program 

All meetings of the Bonsai Society of the Carolinas are at the Bonsai Learning Center unless otherwise noted.

Feb.27 - Mar. 2   Southern Spring Show Held at the Charlotte Merchandise Mart
March 8 10 a.m. Hiroshi Yamaji Guest Artist A special demo and workshop by one of Japan's finest teachers
April 12 1 p.m. Refinement technique on White Pines Jim Hanley will show us how to refine the appearance of Japanese White Pine
May 10  1 p.m. Ken Duncan and John Geangel The pros from Columbia, SC, will present a program about azalea bonsai.  
June 7 all day Annual Members Show (No Meeting this month) This year's show will be at the Dragon Boat Festival (Rusty Harris is coordinator)
July 12 1 p.m. Arthur Joura Lecture Demonstration The NC Arboretums resident bonsai guru pays us his annual visit
August 9 1 p.m. Steve Pilacik, Guest Artist Pine expert Steve Pilacik from the Raleigh-Durham area speaks on pine cultivation, etc. 
September 13 1 p.m. Topic Open Open
October 4 11 a.m. Club Picnic and Swap Meet. Bring your goodies to swap and your appetite
October 11 & 12 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Carolina Bonsai Expo Our society fully participates in the Carolina Bonsai Expo held each year at the NC Arboretum in Asheville.  The society exhibits trees in the Expo.  The event  is open to the public. (John Dixon is the event coordinator)
November 8 1 p.m. Topic Open Open
December 13  1 p.m. Christmas Party Come share a little holiday cheer with friends

 

Board Meetings

Meetings of the Society's executive board are usually held the Monday preceding each meeting date.  These meetings are open to the general membership.  If you would like to attend one of these meetings or address the executive board, you should contact Society president, Robert Wymer, to arrange time on the meeting's agenda.     

Regional Events

 

Asheville, N.C. - The North Carolina Arboretum.  For info call (704) 665-2492
      Second Weekend in October  - Carolina Bonsai Expo.  Featuring a nationally known guest artist.  Bonsai societies   from Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia bring trees for display at this event.  Last year there were over 100 bonsai on exhibit.

      Fall - The Triangle Bonsai Society prepares a bonsai exhibit each year at the N.C. Fair
      in Raleigh, N.C.  The outdoor exhibit is in the garden area.
